Who we are

Caltor is an AI engineering and software firm based in San Francisco, led by two partners who wanted the people who scope the work to be the people who build it.

Caltor was founded by partners who had spent their careers building and running software and network businesses, and who kept seeing the same failure from the other side of the table. The strategy arrived without a build behind it. The build arrived without the people who had sold it. This firm was started to remove both of those layers, and almost everything about how it is organized follows from that decision.

Why the firm exists

The founding partners built ventures of their own before Caltor: a regulated clinical platform, security tooling, payments infrastructure and a network engineering firm that operates today. Across all of it the pattern held. The hard part of enterprise AI is rarely the model. It is the engineering around it, the security review, the evaluation that says whether the thing actually works, and the handover that lets a client keep it. Firms that sell thinking do not carry that weight, and firms that sell people leave the outcome with the buyer. Caltor was built to carry the whole distance.

What we will not do

We do not sell strategy decks with no build behind them, and we do not sell people by the head to work under somebody else's management. We do not put an account manager between a client and the engineers. We do not take an engagement we cannot staff with senior people, and we say so in the first conversation rather than discovering it later. We do not reuse one client's work for another. We take fewer engagements than a firm that scales by hiring, and we would rather decline work than dilute who is on it. When a problem sits outside what we do well, we say so.

How the firm is organized

There is no account layer and no leverage pyramid. The partner who scopes your engagement is the partner accountable for delivering it, and the engineers on the work are senior. Nothing is won by one group and handed to another, so the commitments made in the room are made by the people who have to keep them. The firm is growing beyond its founders, but it grows deliberately. We add people when the work in front of us requires them, and only at a level of seniority a client's architecture can safely be trusted to.

How delivery works

Every engagement is founder-led from first contact, and the partner who scopes your work stays your counterpart through delivery. The engineers are senior, which is how a firm this size keeps genuinely senior people on every engagement, and reviews and decisions are scheduled around your working day. You see working software as it lands rather than at a reveal, and handover documentation is a deliverable rather than an afterthought.

The firm on paper

A vendor review needs facts rather than adjectives, so here they are. The firm is Caltor Inc., a Delaware corporation that trades as Caltor and is based in San Francisco. The contract, the assignment of intellectual property and the confidentiality and security terms are agreed in writing before any work begins, and we will send them to your legal or procurement team on request rather than after signature. Nothing is held back to create dependence on us.

What is true today

  • Caltor Inc. is a Delaware corporation that trades as Caltor, led by two founding partners, Syed Kamal Wasti and Usman Mustafa, each titled Founding Partner.
  • The firm is based in San Francisco.
  • Every engagement is founder-led, which means the partner who scopes the work is the partner accountable for delivering it.
  • The engineers on an engagement are senior, and there is no account layer between a client and the people building the system.
  • Work product is assigned to the client in every contract, including code, prompts, documentation and infrastructure configuration.
  • Clients contract with Caltor Inc., and the confidentiality and security terms are agreed in writing before any work begins.

What this is not

Caltor has no client logos, case studies, testimonials or analyst recognition to show, because the firm is young and would have to invent them. The only work we point to is six ventures the founding partners built and operate themselves, and those are our own, never presented as client work. Nothing here describes a staffed sector practice or a leverage pyramid, because neither exists. The firm works from two locations, and the people on your engagement are senior ones rather than a floor of juniors an engagement gets filled from.

Talk to a partner

If this is the way you would rather buy engineering, the next step is a conversation with one of the partners who will be accountable for it.
