Open roles

No roles are open right now. Whatever your field, write to about the work you do.

Caltor is small on purpose. Two founding partners lead the firm, we have hired beyond them, and we are still growing carefully. Our engineers are senior enough to sit in front of a client and technical enough to ship the system afterwards. The people who run the firm around them, in hiring and people, client development and operations, are held to the same standard. If you have spent years doing work that other people depend on, and you want that work to be visible again, this page is for you, whatever your field.

The work you would do

Every engagement ends in a system that runs in production for a real business. Engineers design the architecture, write the code, wire in evaluation and observability, sit in the security review, and stay with the system through the handover that teaches the client's own team to operate it. Nobody here writes a recommendation and then hands it to another firm to build. The roles around them hold the same line on the firm itself: hiring the people who build, finding the clients they build for, and keeping the records and processes the firm runs on. Each one ends in something you can point to.

There is no pyramid to sit under

Large firms staff engagements as a pyramid: a senior name wins the work, and people two levels down build it. Caltor does not work that way. There is no account layer between you and the client, and no junior tier absorbing the parts nobody wants. We keep a vetted bench for peaks in demand, and it is held to the same senior floor as everyone else, because a bench that lowers the standard is just a slower way of failing. A founding partner is on every engagement alongside you, and the person who scopes a piece of work is expected to be there when it ships.

Small means your work is visible

We are a small firm and we take fewer engagements than a large one. The consequence for you is that there is nowhere for good work to disappear. What you do is identifiable, the partners see it directly, and the people it serves know whose hands it came from. That is as true of a system a client runs as of a person you hired. The same is true in the other direction, because there is no brand to hide behind when a system misbehaves in production or a hire goes wrong. People who find that exposure motivating tend to do their best work here.

What we look for

Seniority here means judgment more than years, in every role. We look for people who have carried real work to an outcome and lived with what happened next, and who write plainly enough that a business reader understands the tradeoff. For an engineer that means having carried something into production and being able to defend an architectural decision to a client's CTO. For the roles that run the firm it means having owned the whole of your job before, from the first step to the result, rather than one stage of it. Financial services is our first vertical, so comfort with regulated data, audit trails and security review is an advantage rather than a chore. Breadth matters too, because on a small team the boundaries between roles are thin.

How to apply

Every open role has its own page and its own application form: your details, your CV and anything else you want us to see, and a few questions about the role. A person at Caltor reads every application, and no automated rule or model turns anyone away. If no open role fits what you do, write to about one piece of work you carried to an outcome, such as a system you built that reached production or a hire you made: what it was, what you owned, and what you would do differently now.

What this is not

This is not a staffing or contract placement page, and it is not an early careers or internship programme. No role here involves waiting to be assigned, because we hire against booked work rather than forecast. Every role listed is a genuine opening we are hiring for now, and it leaves this page the day it closes. The page carries no salary, equity or benefits terms, because those are settled in conversation rather than published.

If no open role fits, name the work you do and one piece of it you carried to an outcome.
